Coffee Complex
Coffee is one of those deceptively simple areas: we all know good coffee when we drink it. However, in spite of the fact that, coffee is nothing more than water that has passed though coffee grounds, it is an incredibly deep subject. People get very passionate about it, there’s a whole culture and industry based around the “perfect” cup of coffee.
So although you know good coffee when you taste it, if you think that buying a superautomatic is going to be a relatively simple affair, think again! You don’t need to become a coffee expert, but if being a Home Barista appeals and you want a superautomatic coffee maker which has the features that are going to suit you the best then you need a checklist- great! That’s the subject of this article.
The aim of this checklist is to make the purchasing easier and focu your attention on some important points.
Budget
With superautomatic machines, you’re looking at a sizeable price tag, with the lower end in the low hundreds and the higher end, well the sky’s the limit. I mentioned above about people getting “passionate” about this subject, well there are some people who are willing to pay for commercial-grade superautomatic espresso machines. Hey if that’s you, great, but the worst thing that can happen is if you get suckered into buying a machine that is way beyond what you actually need. Just like with any purchase, keep your feet on the ground and your eye firmly on your budget.
Coffee Machine Brand Names
The major brand name in the espresso industry are (in no particular order):
- DeLonghi,
- Saeco,
- Bosch,
- Gaggia,
- Jura,
- Rowenta,
- Krups.
If you don’t have a preference from the start then you may want to do some research and see which brands people mention when they talk about their home espresso machines. Pay just as much attention to the negative reviews as to the positive ones. Amazon is a great place to start for online research.
Amount
How many cups will your super automatic be used for per day? Will that be one cup at a time? Or do you need a much larger quantity produced at once.
Space Requirement
Is your espresso machine going to fit in your kitchen? Will you have to make room for it? Get an idea of the maximum size that the new machine can physically occupy.
Mess Factor
If you can, get a demonstration of how to use the machine you want to buy. Pay close attention to how easy it is to clean up afterwards. some machines take care of it all for you and simply dump the used grounds into a storage bin that you can empty at a later time. However, they’re not all the same.
Magic Wand
Do you take coffee with milk? Do you love cappuccino? Hot chocolate? If so then be sure to only consider the superautomatics that come with a milk frother/wand. Check the range of coffee beverages you can master!
